August brings many ferias across Spain, but none quite as extensive as the one held at La Malagueta in Málaga. And when quantity is matched with quality, there’s no doubt:...
Read moreYesterday, 17th August 2024, the La Malagueta bullring resonated with the excitement of the fourth bullfight of the Málaga Fair, where matadors Rafaelillo, Manuel Escribano, and Javier Orozco each earned an ear, in an afternoon defined by the quality and temperament of the Murteira Grave bulls.
Rafaelillo began the evening with a standout performance against the first bull, displaying great commitment and skill despite the challenges presented by the animal. With well-measured and precise passes, he connected with the audience, finishing with a precise sword thrust that earned him a well-deserved ear.
The fourth bull, a more complex beast, once again tested the Murcian matador’s abilities. Despite the difficulties, Rafaelillo showcased his expertise in a highly commendable performance, which earned him a warm ovation from the crowd.
Manuel Escribano faced a Murteira Grave bull that stood out for its presence and bravery, receiving applause from its entrance into the ring. The Sevillian began his work with an impressive cape and a vibrant banderillas segment. His faena, which began on his knees, maximised the bull’s qualities, although it gradually lost strength as the fight progressed. Despite a strong blow to the chest when delivering the final blow, Escribano earned the crowd’s ovation after an ear request that went unheeded.
In the fifth bull, Escribano once again impressed, receiving the bull with a long change of direction at the bull pen doors and demonstrating his total commitment throughout the fight. His performance was solid and forceful, concluding with a sword thrust that, though slightly off, left the audience satisfied.
Local matador Javier Orozco shone with the fourth bull of the evening, earning an ear after a faena in which he displayed a deep understanding of the bull’s right side and the elegance of his passes. He finished with a sword thrust that earned him the ear and a strong request for a second.
In the sixth bull, Orozco faced a more challenging animal. Although he showed determination and spirit with the muleta, the faena progressed from less to more, ultimately concluding without much success as the bull lost its charge.
