Simón Andreu stands out with two ears in the opening novillada of the Malaga Fair 2024

Simón Andreu claimed two ears at the inaugural event of the 2024 Málaga Fair, in a novillada featuring bulls from the Condessa de Sobral ranch, which offered a varied performance. During the afternoon, Alejandro Chicharro was gored while facing the first bull.

Andreu secured an ear from the fourth bull, the noblest of the bunch. He opened with a ‘farol’, followed by several ‘verónicas’. Despite some challenges with the bull’s charges, the performance stood out for his left-handed work, as the bull was less responsive on the right side. After an initial miss, Andreu executed a successful thrust and earned the ear.

The sixth bull presented another challenge with an unpredictable charge. Andreu placed the ‘banderillas’ and delivered the best performance of the day, particularly excelling on the right side. Despite being thrown, he walked away with an ear.

The afternoon began with Alejandro Chicharro facing a difficult bull, which he dedicated to the maestro Ruiz Miguel. During the bout, he was thrown twice and injured on one occasion. Alejandro Cano had to step in to finish off the bull.

The order was then adjusted, and Simón Andreu took on the second bull. The Valencian novice crafted a right-handed performance, with good sequences despite the bull’s lack of strength.

Alejandro Cano had no luck with his lot. The third bull gave him little opportunity to shine, allowing only a few isolated passes due to its lacklustre charge. Against the fifth bull, another difficult and unresponsive animal, Cano demonstrated his skill by outperforming the bull.
