Emilio de Justo triumphs with four ears at the Corrida Picassiana in Málaga

Yesterday afternoon, 16th August 2024, Emilio de Justo emerged as the standout victor at the Picassian Bullfight during the Málaga Fair, cutting a total of four ears, once again demonstrating his mastery in handling the bulls. Meanwhile, Pablo Aguado displayed touches of his elegant bullfighting style, while Cayetano suffered an injury while dealing with his first bull, receiving a heavy blow to the elbow as he delivered the final sword thrust. He was taken to the hospital, where X-rays confirmed a fracture in the radius of his left arm.

La Malagueta Bullring featured unique decorations created by the renowned artist Pedro Sandoval, who crafted exclusive pieces inspired by Pablo Picasso for the occasion. The afternoon was also enhanced by the special music of the Málaga Provincial Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by the voices of soprano Amanecer Sierra and tenor José Antonio Ariza.

Emilio de Justo stood out from the beginning, cutting two ears from the second bull of the afternoon, a bull that showed good depth. The matador from Extremadura executed a solid performance, with well-linked series and smooth passes, finishing with a precise sword thrust. In the fourth bull, which he fought in place of Cayetano, De Justo performed a series of chicuelinas, which Aguado responded to in kind. Despite the bull’s lack of strength, De Justo maintained his composure and finished the performance with a good sword thrust, earning one ear with a strong request for the second. Finally, with the sixth bull, which came out loose and unfocused, the matador from Extremadura shone once again, taking advantage of the good depth of the bull from Torrealta to close with a dedicated performance.

Pablo Aguado, on his part, left his mark with the reception of the third bull with the cape, and although the bull remained manso throughout the fight, he managed some smooth and skilful passes. The applause from the audience reflected his effort. In the fifth bull, Aguado executed a measured performance against a bull that presented difficulties but managed to charge softly thanks to the care of the Sevillian, who left some beautiful isolated passes.

Cayetano, in his only performance, greeted the first bull of the afternoon with verónicas, dealing with a bull that showed little breed and held its head high. With the muleta, he extracted some isolated passes on the right horn, although his performance was interrupted by the injury he suffered when delivering the final sword thrust.
